4th Quarter Distinguished Corporate Governance Speaker Series November 16, 2017 Ascott Bonifacio Global City


Eighty seven (87) ICD Fellows, Members and guests gathered at the Ascott BGC after the ASEAN Summit break to hear distinguished corporate governance speakers, Mr. Chris Lowney, Chairman of Catholic Health Initiatives,  Mr. JJ Moreno, Chief Strategy and Governance Officer of the Metro Retail Stores Group and ICD Trustee and Thought Leadership Circle Chair, Atty. Teodoro Kalaw, IV.

Mr. JJ Moreno, FICD opened ICD’s 4th Quarter Distinguished Corporate Governance Speaker Series with a keynote on Strategy and expounded on why directors should focus on the “Who” rather than the “What” and “How” of strategy.  Mr. Moreno discussed why it’s important to devise strategy based on scenarios and how this can help companies navigate in a VUCA environment.

Distinguished guest, Mr. Chris Lowney delivered his keynote entitled “Doing the Laundry and Pilots in a Storm” - encouraging his audience to embrace a new mindset: getting comfortable with the reality of being uncomfortable.   Mr. Lowney explained ‘dusty shoes’ and stressed the importance of knowing what’s really happening in the field and the frontlines.  Mr. Lowney explained why directors should  go to the field and interact with staff to experience the day-to-day challenges and problems that beset those they govern.
